The Pigeon River (Omiimii‑ziibi) flows into the east side of Lake Winnipeg through Atikaki Provincial Park on Treaty No. 5 Territory. This 5‑day, 160+ km trip will take you down one of Manitoba’s wild, remote rivers in the heart of the dual UNESCO World Heritage Site Pimachiowin Aki — “The Land That Gives Life.” This trip is done in partnership with the Lands Guardians of Little Grand Rapids. Guests will monitor and observe the condition of the land and send information back to the community following the trip, while also making sure to give the respect and care to the land it deserves.

Experience the breathtaking wilderness of northern Manitoba as you fly into Family Lake at Shining Falls to begin an unforgettable paddling journey down the Pigeon River. Widely regarded as one of Canada’s best white water rivers, this 8-day expedition is sure to check all the boxes of even seasoned paddlers and thrill seekers alike. Expect a mix of big whitewater, peaceful flatwater, abundant wildlife, and opportunities to learn about Indigenous histories and land stewardship.

Your journey finishes just upstream of Lake Winnipeg, at the East Side Highway, where you will be met and shuttled back to Winnipeg. Guided meals, expert instruction, and respectful engagement with the land and its stewards are included to ensure a safe, educational, and immersive backcountry experience.

This 8-Day fly-in Canoe Trip is geared towards those who have previous river experience and want to take things to the next level. This is an incredible way to experience Manitoba's thrilling pool & drop-style rapids.

What Is Not Included?

  • Tax: 5% of the trip fee

  • Personal clothing and gear

    • a recommended clothing & equipment list will be provided

  • Travel between your home and the trip rendezvous and departure points (Bisset & Winnipeg) 

  • Accommodations and meals in Winnipeg other than those listed above

  • Any additional expenses or costs incurred as a result of delays to the trip caused by factors beyond our control - i.e. wind, waves, unsafe paddling conditions, forest fire, pandemic, etc

  • Any costs associated with your emergency evacuation from the trip
